Artist v. Businessman is a BALANCE, not a formula.

This response is so inspiring. You illustrate a definite benefit of an artist who considers himself a businessman… retiring to an island as a millionaire is pretty close to the dream.

“ I do pay attention to what art is currently in fashion, but this knowledge represents no more than a pinch of salt in the banquet I’m trying to prepare.”

Most artists have to do this. I’m not the type who thinks you can completely shut out the world and create art in your own little bubble. But input affects output. I try not to take in too much of one source because I don’t want to sound like a different person. I need my voice to be heard — not a watered down version of someone else’s.

Thanks Lawrence :)
