Books are companions, and blog posts are prostitutes

Your average blog post seems exciting. Then, three minutes later, it’s over.

You promptly forget it ever happened. What is the name of the blog post? Who wrote it? Where did the information come from? Who cares? It made you feel smart for a minute. Blog posts give you flimsy opinions. Books give you ideas.

You can’t get through a book in three minutes. That’s the point. A book is a companion, a friend. A book becomes a part of you. You look at the cover and say “ah yes. What a lovely time we had together.”

Long live books. Long live paper.
