Guilt and shame are two of the most powerful emotions.

I wrote a blog post a while back (if I could find it if link it) about how critical it is to do what you can, forgive yourself for the rest, and move on to the next day.

At the end of the day, nobody is going to be your greater ally or enemy than yourself. Absurd things happen when you have this mindset — “nobody knows what I am capable of.”

I wanted to speak to this part of the response not because I worry you struggle with this necessarily, but because many writers get stuck in this cycle:

  • Expectations are set too high
  • Life happens
  • Writer throws her hands up and wonders why she can’t get anything done.

Instead, I try to write as many words as I can per day. If I end up writing nothing, I think: “I’ll write more tomorrow.” If I end up writing 2,000 words, I think “I’ll write more tomorrow”

The 5 minute thing isn’t a magic bullet…

But it can certainly help :)
