If there’s anything I’ve taken away from the responses on my posts — its this:
I think that both great art and great business lay somewhere on the spectrum between these two extremes.
Love this, Leo, and I appreciate you giving me a chance to expand.
To me, this topic is similar to the function of the left and right brains — with the left analytical and logical and the right emotional and wild. Most humans work with a combination of both. One isn’t necessarily best.
I wanted to draw the same comparison between art and business — strip them down and polarize them.
That being said, I still think the spark for art which changes the world (including Steve Jobs’ typography) comes from a place which is not “look at trends, execute on the path likely to make money,” but “look within, execute on that which fits your heart.”
The result can be similar, but the difference in the input, I believe, is very important.
