I have a lot to say about the state of the male identity in America (all of which is still half-formed and yet to wiggle it’s way out of my brain).
In general, I worry about the lack of commitment. Stepping up to be a provider for one family has to be one of the most noble life pursuits. I talk about intimate relationships a lot because it is important. We need close relationships to survive. We need the trust, the intimacy, the honesty, the closeness which is not found in flitting around between different partners. We need men who are leaders, not “yes, dear”-ers.
I hope your boys do read this, and I hope the recognize the power and the opportunity to be great men.
Thank you Sandra, giving me the chance to expand on this.
(Your story nearly made me cry. Thank you for picking up and living even though someone close to you chose not to. You are so strong. I wish you all the love in the world.)
